It’s quite unfortunate that regulating social media has become the most important topic in Nigeria’s socio-political space recently.

The 2 weeks of #EndSARS protest showed to them beyond reasonable doubts how effective social media can be to make Government accountable to the people.

What else is remaining for a group of citizens who have been denied dividends of Democracy if not for free speech?

In Nigeria, many traditional media channels have been rendered useless with series of laws and regulations of news coverage, citizen Journalism through social media is what average Nigerians heavily rely on.

Now, they want to regulate the social media space too.

What Will Happen If Social Media Is Regulated?

With what happened during #EndSARS protest, the government were afraid because of how global the issue went.

Even the atrocities of Lekki Massacre was made known to the whole world through social media.

If this so-called social media bill is allowed, it means Nigerians won’t have a voice again, no one will speak against the government without being prosecuted and jailed for it.

Therefore, Nigerians will have to die in silence of any government wrong-doings and it will be easier for them to get away with it if International bodies don’t know about it.

Social media bill or social media regulation move is another method of protecting corruption, if we allow it happen, we are finished.

Guys, what are your thoughts on this? 👇
