The careers of Yonda and Idowest have barely had any major success after two years of being signed to Davido’s DMW

There’s always been this respect given to Davido for the landmarks he’s recorded over the years as the head of his record label franchise, DMW

Starting in 2016, he’s brought in unknown acts and reformed them to superstar acts who have risen to stardom in an industry that’s becoming difficult to penetrate everyday.

The Wins

Mayorkun, Dremo and later on Peruzzi, Yonda, Idowest are signed to the platform as also Lil Frosh and Ayanfe who are signed to sub-labels under the company.

Mayorkun has been an instant success from start with his debut single, Eleko to being one of the standout act this year. You can’t also list some of the best lyricists in Nigeria’s rap scene without paying respect to Dremo and we all know how Peruzzi has become one of the important personnel in Davido’s arsenal.

The Forgotten

Yet, while this gives credibility to the claim that DMW is perhaps the biggest record label in the country, one is forced to ask about the whereabouts of the other acts in the label —Yonda and Idowest.

Since his last breakout single, Las Vegas which underlined his ability to churn out story telling hits, Yonda’s career has stalled surprisingly.

This writer doesn’t know if he’s been restricted to releasing singles or he’s just comfortable with the wins he’s had so far.

For sure, many might wonder if he’s still under the franchise but last year, he was credited on three songs as a writer for Davido’s sophomore, A Good Time.

Idowest’s story is also one to be looked into. Signed on the back of the trendy success of Shepeteri, he’s only released a project which was poorly promoted and forgotten by music listeners.

For sure, we only celebrate our wins, the case of these two artists cast a shadow on the claim — DMW is the biggest label in the country.

And while we’ve always riled artists like Olamide and Wizkid for the mismanagement of the young acts they’ve signed in the past, Davido shouldn’t be spared the blame.
