NTLoaded MUSIC REVIEW! On A Scale Of 1-10, How Will You Rate Olamide’s Street Anthem “Eru”?
With Eru, Olamide is reminding us, no one comes close when it comes creating street anthems
Olamide occupies a position as one of Nigeria’s most consistent hit makers in the history of the industry.
If anyone is doubting, show them the slew of hits Olamide recorded 2012-2016 when he had a period decorated with trendy hits.
Hits that either kickstarted conversations, introduced a new song or began a sound trend. Such was his influence in the industry that period.
Yet. Things are not the same again.
The sudden injection of new sound styles by fresh talents, the industry reception to the music these guys are creating means established acts can’t churn out the same sound everytime and expect consumers to enjoy it.
That might be the problem with Olamide.
On Eru, he sounds fresher and vitalised, his lyrics are catchy on this P.Priime-assisted track.
Eru’s Story
The story about Eru is centered around Olamide’s fondness for a girl, with Baddo constantly assuring her there’s wealth if she cedes to his wishes.
This story is conveyed through Olamide’s street infused lamba: Gimme opor por por por oporpor
O ye kalepopo kalepo
Though the track lacks some lyrical depth, this is saved by P Priime’s thumping percussion that helps to turn it to a street anthem.
While we might continue to enjoy the endless flow of melodic-filled releases that has saturated the music space this year, Eru is a reminder from Olamide that he’s unmatchable when it comes to creating street anthems.
