VM MUSIC REVIEW:- Zlatan’s New Song “Gbeku” With Burna Boy – A Hit Song Or Just A Waste Of Data?

Posted by on October 30, 2019 0

Zlatan & Burna Boy‘s chemistry is definitely unmatched on “Killin Dem” but it fails to follow the same pedestal on the newly released “Gbeku“.

Recently, Zlatan drops a new track tagged “Gbeku” off his soon released debut album “Zanku” teaming up with African Giant himself, Burna Boy and his frequent go-to beatsmith, Rexxie.

The song “Gbeku” was released as an instructional song to his newly curated dance step called “Gbeku” and having Burna Boy on a song like this was a very brilliant and fancy opinion from the whole Zanku team. Cause that’s probably the one star that can take the dance step places.

Just like how Burna Boy did with “Killin Dem“, making it a conduit in which the dance step Zanku used to gain its wide international acceptance. He might as well experiment the same approach with this new tune “Gbeku“.

Let’s take a look at the individual’s contributions of Rexxie, Burna Boy, and Zlatan;

On Gbeku, Rexxie continues his sublime run of “No Bad Beats” as he clung to his regular danceable Afrobeat bouncy sounds.

As much as the beat sound like the one he made on Davido‘s “Bum Bum” it was still needed the element to spice up the new Zlatan‘s song “Gbeku” to make it a sleeper song. Kudos to Rexxie on the amazing contribution to this song.

Give it up to the African Giant!!! Burna Boy‘s contribution to this project cannot be overemphasized. Many are of the saying that “Without Burna Boy‘s chorus on Gbeku, then Gbeku won’t even be noticed when it drops” well where is the lie in that?

Burna Boy‘s chorus was very catchy and highly relatable, as it gives clear instruction on how the Gbeku dance is meant to be done, and it perfectly laid on Rexxie’s produced beat.

All DJ’s will never want to miss out on including the Burna Boy‘s “Gbeku” chorus on their respective Mixtape for December Party Mix.

As the owner of the song, a lot was actually expected from Zlatan. This was due to the fact that his contribution to the award-winning song “Killin Dem” was felt and it places the song on that top tier all year round.

So the whole music lovers’ expectations grew fonder as the artwork of “Gbeku” was unveiled having Burna Boy on it further triggered the expectations of all. But it was so disappointing listening to the very regular flow from the Zanku master himself.

Zlatan sounded like he was forced to record the song, or probably he wasn’t in the right frame of mind when recording cause at a point I noticed how Zlatan‘s flows switched and it started sounding as if Mohbad was freestyling. If not for Burna Boy, Gbeku would have been a total bluff.

OVERALL RATINGS

In generality, Gbeku didn’t satisfy the whole criteria a hit song would have satisfied.

Its a song that will surely have its moment this December due to the dance attached to it and the bouncy Rexxie’s beat, but after December is there a future for it?
