SPORT VIDEO: Canelo Alvarez Says He’s Going To Beat Golovkin’s Face In

By Sean Jones: Canelo Alvarez is still bitter about the trash-talking that Gennady Golovkin did three years ago after his positive test for clenbuterol in 2018, and the Mexican star says he wants to beat him up.

Canelo is finally ready to fight Golovkin waiting three years in a move that some fans view as the Mexican star aging him so that he’s harmless. It’s been three years since Canelo, 30, last fought Golovkin, and if there is a chance for him to thrash the now 39-year-old Kazakhstan star, it would have to be now. If Canelo waits too much longer, it’ll be wretched and viewed as a case of him waiting until Golovkin was ready for retirement before fighting him again.

Canelo Denies Doping

“I had very difficult months because I was accused of having done something that they called doping, and it wasn’t doping. It was a very low percentage,” said Canelo to Graham Bensinger.

Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol in 2018, and he would later be suspended for six months for this. Although Canelo claims that the positive test came from eating tainted beef, many fans wondered why his physique looked so ripped than in the early part of his career.

“Meat, all meat here, has clenbuterol,” said Canelo. “If you eat a piece of meat here, you go and get tested; you’re going to test positive for clenbuterol. But that’s not doping.” The logical question is, why didn’t Canelo have his beef tested or shipped over from the U.S, given that he’s a millionaire. Fans wondered how a wealthy fighter like Canelo didn’t have the best quality beef sent to him from the United States if there were concerns about beef in Mexico being tainted with clenbuterol.

Canelo should have an opening in his schedule to face GGG in their long-awaited trilogy in December, as soon as he finishes beating the belt-holders Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant. Those guys are champions in name only. Neither of them has beaten anyone good to deserve to hold titles, and they’ve been thoroughly unimpressive against the marginal opposition they’ve feasted on during their respective careers.

Unfortunately, Canelo (55-1-2, 37 KOs) failed to thrash Golovkin in their two fights, as many boxing fans believe that GGG was robbed twice in the same location at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo clearly deserved a loss in the first fight, given what fans saw as a gift 12 round draw in 2017 at the T-Mobile against Golovkin. Alvarez Vows To Beat Golovkin’s Face In

“I am going to just really beat his f—— face in,” said Canelo about Golovkin. “That’s what I said. I think that I’ve never been disrespectful to my rivals, or any of that because you have to be respectful always.

“But he was one of the persons who I have most wanted to cut their head off.” Hopefully, Canelo chooses to fight Golovkin this year after beating the 168-lb belt-holders Saunders and Plant to become the undisputed champion at super middleweight. If Alvarez waits until GGG turns 40 in April 2022, it’s going to be forlorn and just plain pathetic.

Due to the controversy surrounding Canelo’s first two fights with Golovkin, it should have been priority one for him to face him in the trilogy in December 2018 rather than fighting Rocky Fielding. Canelo choosing to fight Fielding rather than Golovkin in 2018 was a clear signal to many boxing fans that he didn’t want any more smoke from GGG.

With Canelo dodging two losses against Golovkin due to highly questionable scoring in their fights at the T-Mobile Arena, it looked weak on Alvarez’s part to choose Fielding, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, and Avni Yildirim. The last quality opponent that Canelo has was Golovkin in 2018. The rest of the guys he’s fought since 2018 have been either over-the-hill fighters like Jacobs and Kovalev or mediocre boxers like Callum, Fielding, and Yildirim.

Canelo will be fighting WBO belt-holder Billy Joe Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) on May 8th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Alvarez won’t get credit for beating Saunders because he’s not rated highly by American boxing fans. He’s what many fans view as a paper champion.
